Aati Kashaya on Aati Amavasya

Jul 24, 2025

Dept. of Dravyaguna and Dept. of Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana, Yenepoya Ayurveda Medical College & Hospital (YAMCH), organized the distribution of Aati Kashaya on Aati Amavasya on 24th July 2025, with over 300 participants. Dr. Puneeth Raghavendra, Principal of Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College & Hospital, was the chief guest. Aati Amavasya, observed on the new moon day of the Aati month, holds great cultural and medicinal significance in Tulunadu. On this day, people consume Aati Kashaya (or Paaleda Kashaya), a traditional decoction made from the bark of Paale mara (Alstonia scholaris), believed to detoxify and strengthen the body. The bark is collected early in the morning in silence and with ritual purity—sometimes with minimal clothing as a mark of humility. A small piece is peeled from the eastern side of the tree, cleaned, and boiled to prepare the Kashaya. The event helped revive awareness about this age-old health tradition rooted in nature.
